Hmm.. I should probably pick up Tubey again, hmm? I’ve been kinda busy lately, though. I was in focus today for our next show, and we finish that up tomorrow. Tech is this weekend, which means that sleep will soon be a precious commodity. So what do I do? Get reminded of one of my many hobbies: spinning. I’ve got a drop spindle sitting upstairs with some wool that I’ve been meaning to spin for… I dunno, forever? I was reminded by a mention of this WONDERFUL site in Wendy knits. ” (I think my site has better alleterative value) Wendy is a terrifying knitter. Her speed is such that I’m not sure she sleeps. However, the mention of this spinning site- on which there are quicktime demos- reminded me of the sad, lonely, abandoned spindle currently hidden under some books in my bedroom.
Hmm… Maybe I’ll take that in to play with in my office during tech. They won’t notice if I disappear for a while… will they?

This weekend was wonderfully nice out. Well, Saturday was, anyway. I got to go to the zoo with a friend of mine, just because it was so nice. Sadly, we didn’t get in to see the baby panda, and they had that whole chunk of the zoo roped off so we couldn’t even go around and see the elephants. I’m still pretty irritated about that. I mean, I understand wanting to keep your cash cow strictly controlled, but come on. Do the words “ Panda Cam ” mean nothing? Free, easy, and you don’t have to stand in line or be spoken down to by rude ladies with “zoo volunteer” t shirts. If you’re in the area, go to the Amazonia exhibit there, though. Just remember to duck when you’re dive bombed by a macaw.
Sunday I came to the conclusion that I need a good, new book. I’m afraid I’m all out of books here in my home port that I haven’t read several times over already. Especially the mysteries. I love the classics: Ngiao Marsh, Agatha Christie, Rex Stout. I think Nero Wolfe is frighteningly clever, don’t you? Even if he does make Archie do everything. And Good old Miss Marple- she knitted rather a lot, too. Just shows how very clever she was. *sigh* So I’m looking for suggestions. I’ve also been known to read a fantasy novel or two. I admit a certain fondness for the Chicks in Chainmail series of anthologies. Any ideas?

This was sent to me this morning and it made me giggle. So I share.

Today I admitted something to myself. I am a junkie. No, I do not take drugs (except for my sweet Benadryl- the stuff that makes life possible) but I am nonetheless a junkie. Today I found myself knitting while playing World of Warcraft. Now, for those of you who do not know what World of Warcraft is, I will explain briefly that it is what is known as an Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Game. These are known to be more addictive than heroin. While I was playing this game (aka World of Warcrack) and putting my character on a flight to another part of the world, I realized that I had picked up my knitting and was actually working on a sleeve.
I was cheating on my game addiction with my knitting.
I’m not sure how I feel about this, or the revelation that this is not the first time I have done this. Thinking back, I realize that this habit is months old now. I did this with my very first sleeve, while doing cables. Is this my brain’s way of telling me that I need to improve my concentration? Is this my fingers telling me that I need to be fidgeting at all times? I have no idea. What I DO know is that once I start knitting while I’m fighting boss level bad guys, or while I’m in a dungeon-bound group with my friends, I may need to go into rehab. Is there a Knitting Gamer’s Anonymous?

I didn’t intend to post anything today- I’m sick and crabby and nobody wants to hear that. But when I came dragging home from work today at lunchtime, I found a box waiting for me. It’s my yarn for the Rogue Hoodie! Alittle box of happiness and cheer to brighten my day.

I’m trying to be good and at least finish the sleeves on Tubey project before starting to swatch for the Olympic effort. For now- orange juice and bed.

What was I doing all weekend when I could have been playing free video games of all sorts? Knitting, of course. I started Tubey while booth babeing it up at MAGFest last weekend. Here I am being visited by the rest of the gang- Shannon and Ananth.

Also, this is me practicing this whole ‘putting pictures online’ thing. Not bad, eh?

Well, I’ve gone and done it now. I’ve joined up with the Rogue Hoodie team for the Knitting Olympics . I’ve been looking at yarns and talking to the Knitting goddess at work. She is going to do it with me, so we encourage each other. For some reason I’m seeing it in a really clear forest/ren-faire green. I’m thinking maybe Cascade 220. Ok, I’m lying. I’ve decided already on the Cascade 220, and I’m just waiting for my paycheck to roll in so that it’s not a choice between yarn and the student loan payment. I can’t wait to start on the olympic effort. Oh, the excitement builds- I only wish I could go to Italy to do it!
I’m almost done with sleeve one of Tubey. Pictures as soon as the camera comes back from vacation. The darn thing gets around more than I do.

Welcome! After much consideration, and the fact that several of my friends refuse to let me lounge on my sofa in peace, I have started this blog. I intend to post primarily about knitting, but I expect that plenty of other tidbits will sneak in, so I’ll admit a few things up front. Forewarned is fore armed, right?
I work in theatre, and no I don’t act, thank you very much. I am a technician- a master electrician to be exact. No, that does not mean I wire outlets and fix breakers, it means I make sure all of the lighting for all the shows looks the way the designers and directors want them. It’s terribly exciting, especially as I am currently employed at a children’s theatre.
Another thing to know about me is that I not only watch anime and play video games and read comic books, I even go to conventions for such things! It’s not as bad as it sounds. Several of my friends (the same ones who insisted I start blogging, hmm..) are involved with webcomics. I go to be a sort of Communal Booth Babe. I sell their tshirts and posters, and they take me to exotic places like Boston and Charlottesville for fun weekends away.
As to knitting, I learned knitting first when I was very young and was reintroduced to knitting about a year and a half ago, thanks to our costume shop manager. I recently finished my very first sweater- a cabled hoodie, and I’ve started on my version of Tubey in a really soft alpaca. I also do a small amount of weaving and spinning. Fiber arts have become so much a way of life for me that my mother is actually starting to worry.
Well, now that I’m feeling like I’m wearing the blogging equivalent of a “Hello, My Name Is” tag, I’m starting to feel very lame about it indeed. I would like to say thanks to Hawk, though, for holding my hand and doing all kinds of tech support for me. Thanks Hawk!!! Until next time, then!
